Absorber

The Omega fin used in the Atlas collector has a unique geometry with the tube at the top giving direct exposure to the sun. The copper fin encapsulates the whole circumference of the copper tube, giving maximum heat transfer, and the relationship between the tube diameter, fin width and thickness of material has all been calculated and tested to give optimum results.  The geometry of the fin increases the total surface area by 20%, therefore the Atlas 1.3GS panel has a surface area of 1.3m^² for the collection of direct sunlight and a total surface area of 1.57m^² for the collection of diffuse sunlight.  As 60% of all energy is collected in diffuse sunlight, this gives the Atlas panel a huge advantage over its competitors. 

The black chrome selective surface has exceptional properties with an absorptivity of 95% and an emmissivity of just 12%.  Black chrome is the only selective surface where the absorptivity increases with age.

Casing. The slim line body of the Atlas collector is made from powder coated aluminium with an aluminium sheet back plate.

Glazing .  Toughened glass is used to give that added protection and peace of mind. 

Glass is the best cover for any collector because unlike plastic it does not deteriorate due to atmospheric pollution, does not scratch easily and is essentially self-cleaning. 

Insulation . Insulation behind the absorber plate is very important for retaining precious energy. The panels have 40mm insulation to the back & 15mm foam insulation to the sides.

Connections . Collectors are connected together using a new close couple stainless steel flexible joint specially manufactured for Atlas.  Designed to take up expansion of the header pipes, whilst allowing for curvature or defects in the roof, the connector allows fast and simple installation and with little or no external pipework the overall effect is both impressive and aesthetically pleasing.
